Leo "Duke" Paul DuCharme

West Lebanon, NH – Leo Paul “Duke” DuCharme, 80, passed away at his home on Friday, July 13, 2012 while surrounded by his family.

Duke was born on July 18, 1931 in West Lebanon a son of Alice (Laware) and Peter DuCharme and was a proud graduate of West Lebanon High School. After school, Duke went on to serve the Navy on a submarine during the Korean War. It was during that time he married his first wife Irene in New York City on August 30, 1953. After his military service, Duke went to work for the U.S. Postal Service beginning in 1958, until his retirement in 1992. In his retirement Duke began working for Dartmouth Athletics, and had the opportunity to work at the games he had for years enjoy attending.

In his spare time Duke loved to golf, football, going to the beach, spending time with his puppies and constant companions Tallulah and Pierre and most of all, being with his family.

Duke leaves behind his wife and best friend of twenty-one years Deborah (Mayette) DuCharme of West Lebanon, whom he married on May 4, 1991; two daughters Nanette DuCharme Andrews of Lebanon, NH and Denise DuCharme and her husband Greg Phair of Enfield, NH; two step-daughters that he raised, loved and treated as his own, Beth and Caitlin Koury of West Lebanon; two grandchildren Catherine and Thomas Andrews of Hartland, VT; a brother Burton; sister Phyllis and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife Irene on April 8, 1989; his parents; brothers Peter and Gordon; and sisters Virginia, Lorraine, Gertrude, Irene and Juanita.

A memorial service will be held at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2PM.
